Who am I really?

Now I have a new bad habit. I fall asleep, but keep one eye open. Apart from the obvious paranoiac implications of this, I wake up with a really sore, gritty eye that takes up to an hour to soothe.

Some people have told me that in their dreams they become another sex, or even an animal, such as an eagle, spending dream time soaring from one place to another. This makes me feel terribly boring because I'm always me,me,me in my dreams. I have never become someone or something else. Have you?

Similarly, when I am drunk or other types of altered states, still there is always that part of my mind that is taking note of the staggering, or perhaps the amount of elapsed time I have spent communing with a bumblebee.

I've even seen someone in a hospital, in a drug-induced coma, having that part of them that remains aware.

For me, the me that never goes away, who is that? That calm, patient observer. The me that nothing other than perhaps death can extinguish. Maybe not even death.

Nevertheless, from now on I'm sleeping with a scarf tied over my eyes.

Why are women so stupid?

Is anyone else annoyed by the way women name their babies after the father, as in so-and-so junior? It's especially irritating when the mother isn't even married to the father! Why don't we have little girls named Alicia Fotheringham Junior, for example?

Now another new development on this aspect of male/female relations is women who can't even have the independence to have their own email address with their own name on it!!
No, it has to be "John and Fiona Macintosh", even if they are unmarried and her name isn't even Macintosh!!!

Doctors ain't what they used to be.

It's kind of sad to know your doctor doesn't care about you. At first I was surprised, even though I hardly ever see him. But maybe it's better to have a doctor who's strictly professional, without any emotional stuff. After all, no-one expects their mechanic to care. You just want them to fix the car.

Why should I?

I live in such a beautiful place that I'm not sure I want to reveal it to all of CyberSpace -or at least the Blogosphere- at this point in time. We'll see how well-behaved you all are first.

Anyway, let me make it clear that I am a Obama supporter. How wonderful to finally (perhaps) have black people and one splendidly-blended person in the (as it turns out) embarrassingly named White House!!! For many years I've wondered why the political scene did not include most of us. Only middle-aged to old white men. Not representative! How boring! Where are all the people of color? Where are the women, who after all, are the biggest percentage of this country?

I thought the interview with Obama, Michelle, and their kids was adorable. I love it that they are real people. Natural, down to earth and spontaneous.

My very first post

I'm only doing this because a friend wants to blog, so I'm seeing how hard this is to do. So far, not hard at all.
